Verna Joan "Joni" Stringer, 62 years 4 months and 2 days of age, of Somerset, Kentucky, departed this life unexpectedly on Sunday, February 3rd, 2019 at her home.
Joni was born in Somerset, Kentucky on Monday, October 1st, 1956, daughter of Sue Carol Bogle Stringer and the late Vern Bryce Stringer. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and a big University of Kentucky Wildcats fan. She loved music and loved her family, but most of all she loved spending time with her granddaughter, Gracie. Joni was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church.
Joni was survived by two sons, Kevin (and Patricia) Russell and Kendrick "Ricky" Russell; her mother, Sue Stringer; one sister, Pamela "Pam" Baker; her granddaughter, Gracie Russell; a very special aunt who was more like a sister, Janice Bogle Leigh; a former husband, Kenneth Wayne "Kenny" Russell; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends who mourn her passing.
She was preceded in death by her father, Vern Stringer, who departed this life on May 21st, 2017; one sister, Cynthia Jan "Cindy" Stringer Stone, who departed this life on May 21st, 2005; one brother, Terry Lynn Stringer, who departed this life on September 20th, 2018; and a previous husband, Darrin Lee Nevels, who departed this life on July 6th, 2008.
Visitations were held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 7th, 2019 in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky.
It was Joni's wishes to be cremated with a portion of her ashes buried in the Oak Hill Baptist Church cemetery in Somerset, Kentucky.
