James Philip "Phil" Abbott

Phil Abbott, 84, left this life to be with Our Lord the evening of May 29, 2007. Phil, the fourth child of Clyde and Ruth (Neighbors) Abbott, was born February 2, 1923 in Rocky Ford, and raised in Swink, Colorado. Phil was married June 30, 1948 in Idaho Falls to Eleanore Cecilia Ziebarth.

Phil and Eleanore met at college in South Bend, Indiana where Eleanore graduated from St. Mary's College and Phil from the University of Notre Dame. They began a family in San Lorenzo, CA and Phil started his 40 year long career with Holly Sugar Corporation. The family relocated to Colorado Springs in 1952, to Brawley, CA in 1959, to Burlingame, CA in 1961, and back to Colorado Springs in 1966.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Eleanore on September 9, 2004. Phil has since resided in his family home with his daughter, Mary Mooney and her husband, Pat. He is survived by his children James Thomas Abbott (Jacquie) of Houston, TX, Richard Joseph Abbott (Barbara) of Mount Vernon, WA, Phyllis Ann Dorrington (Jeff) of Helena, MT, Mary Ruth Mooney (Pat) of Colorado Springs, CO, Catherine Marie Irby (Jim) of Seattle, WA, and Joanne Elaine Carlson (Maynard) of Boise, ID. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

As an active parishioner at St. Paul's Catholic Church for 41 years, his strong faith guided every aspect of his life. He shared his faith by visiting those unable to leave their homes and by attending mass several days per week. His kind nature, outgoing personality, and sense of humor were treasured by his family and friends. He was a truly beautiful soul.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 1, at Swan Law Funeral Home from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church followed by a Scriptural Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday morning at St. Paul's at 9:00 a.m., with burial at Fairview Cemetery in Colorado Springs to follow. Donations may be made in his memory to Pauline Memorial School or Silver Key Senior Services, where he volunteered for 25 years.

When Phil departed this life, he left his family and many, many friends with a feeling of tremendous loss. He leaves a legacy of generosity and faith which inspires us and will always be with us.
