OBITUARY: DELORES REED, age 89, of Albion, passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Faith Regional Health Center in Norfolk.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 23rd at New Life Church of the Nazarene in York. Rev. Dave Martelle will officiate. Interment will be in Hampton Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the family to designate at a later date. Delores Ann Reed, the daughter of Willis LeRoy and Alma Anna (Weifenbach) Dawkins, was born in Holly Springs, Iowa on April 30, 1929 and passed away in Norfolk, Nebraska on January 19, 2019, at the age of 89.
She grew up and attended schools in Albion, St. Edward and Aurora. Delores worked in the bakery at Aurora and helped take care of her four younger siblings.
Delores married Deryl Reed on May 16, 1945 at Marysville, Kansas. To this union they had six children: Deryl, Deanna, David, Deborah, Daniel and Donna. They spent their early married life in the Aurora area, before moving to Oklahoma so Deryl could attend Bethany Nazarene College to study for the ministry. His role as pastor took them to several towns in both Nebraska and Oklahoma. He also was a social worker in the towns he served. Deryl passed away on December 30, 1993. Delores took charge of keeping the church doors open after Deryl passed. While raising their family Delores worked at many nursing homes in the towns they lived. After Deryl passed away, Delores received her C.N.A. certification. Delores was the best caregiver to her own daughter, Deanna, until her health prevented her from doing so.
Delores was known for her amazing cooking and baking. She loved to share these talents with her family. Playing games and cards were always fun times with family members and friends. Delores liked to crochet, sew, and attend Bible Studies. She had a strong faith in God.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, brother, Duane Dawkins and daughter-in-law, Janet Reed.
Those left to cherish her memory are her six children, Deryl Reed, Sr. of North Platte; Deanna Reed of Albion, David Reed of Warr Acres, Oklahoma, Deborah (Dave) Landauer of Albion, Daniel Reed of Lawrence, Kansas and Donna (James) Bench of El Reno, Oklahoma; 9 grandchildren, Deryl (Jodie) Reed, Jr. of Ord, Kalynn (Stanley) Key of Burwell, John (Angie) Landauer of Arlington, Jennifer (Scott) Whited of Petersburg, Janelle (Chad) King of Newman Grove, Heather (Jose) Sanchez of Riverside, California, Hannah (Shawn) Feindel of Parker, Colorado, Torrey (Moya) Inestroza of El Reno, Oklahoma and Taylor (Jacob) Schubert of Mustang, Oklahoma; 3 step grandchildren, Mark (Colleen) Stone, Laurie (Frank) Griffin, Kelli Whited; 16 great-grandchildren, Lance, Cody, Brianna, Skyler, Ashton, Julia, Jack, Ethan, Isabella, Joshua, Andrew, Annabelle, Aliana, Breysi, Weston, Sadie and one more due in February; 2 step great-grandchildren, Jacob, Mikel and 4 step great-great grandchildren, Skyler, Daniel, Sawyer and DrayLyn. She is also survived by two brothers, Robert (Loretta) Dawkins of Grand Island, Willis Dawkins of Birch Bay, Washington and a sister, Donna (James) Kolar of Yuma, Arizona as well as many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. The family would like to thank all her friends at the Albion Baptist Church, her good friend Edna Kruger, the staff & residents of the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home and her many other friends and family members for always making Delores feel loved.
