Inscription on grave and location of graveyard (on the Gen. Phillips farm, near Ellerslie) given in History of Harris County Georgia, 1827-1961, by Louise Calhoun Barfield (Mrs. G. C.), published at Columbus, GA, in 1961, p. 447, which also says Charles Phillips was postmaster of Ellerslie, August 14, 1828 (from U.S. Post Office Dept.) He was the father of Brig. Gen. P. J. Phillips, who commanded at Griswoldville. (From Hamilton Journal, 9-24-1886.) General Phillips had three sons and and two daughters (see data from Walker Family records of Mulberry Grove). To the memory of General Charles Phillips who was born in Rockingham County, North Carolina, April 6, 1790, was married to Anne Nicks, December 9, 1813, Emigrated from North Carolina to Jones County, Georgia 1817, and died at Ellerslie, Harris County, Georgia, November 27, 1836. During his life he filled many offices of distinction with credit to himself and profit to his country. He lived much beloved and died universally regretted by all who knew him.
