Porah Estelle Byrum, 84, of Altoona route two died May 23, 1980, in a Gadsden hospital. Daughter of the late James Madison and Martha Jane Wright Burns, she was born in Blount County and married Besky Smith Byrum who died in 1951. She became a Christian at an early age and was a faithful member of Ebenezer Methodist Church, where she was also a member of UMW. Mrs. Byrum leaves two daughters, Louise Pack of Gadsden and Geneva Freeman of Horton route one;four sons, Vernon O. Byrum of Altoona route two, Duane M. Byrum of Snead, Orris B. Byrum of Albertville, and Rev. Kenneth A. Byrum of Big Sandy, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Revs. R. Terry Bentley and John K. Hall officiated at the funeral held May 25 at 4 pm. at Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery, Pallbearers were David Freeman, Phillip Byrum, Benny Byrum, Mack Cantrell, Wayne Edmondson, Myron Callahan, Ronnie Collins, John Crietz, Billy Jones, Don Reid, and Charlie Noojin. ...Southern Democrat, Oneonta, AL
