John Hanson, formerly of Pierre, passed away May 24, 2007, at the Human Services Center in Yankton, where he received excellent and loving care.

Funeral services were held May 29 at United Methodist Church, Gregory, S.D., with Pastor Fred Rosin officiating. Burial was in the Gregory cemetery.

John was born April 26, 1914, in Dixon County, Neb. to Paul and Rhoda McCormack Hanson. He spent his childhood on farms near Concord, Neb. and Gregory.

December 7, 1933, he married Theresa Knittel. They farmed in Wayne, Neb. and Gregory County. In 1959, they moved to Pierre where he owned a Pontiac dealership. John later worked for Lutheran Memorial Church as a custodian; retiring in 1982. In 1983 he married Grace Flannery. Prior to his transfer to Yankton, John was a resident at Parkwood and Maryhouse in Pierre.

He is survived by his children, Dwayne (Pat), Alma, Neb.; Darrel (Dolores), Rapid City; Jackie Kalenda (Alvin), Winner; Joe (Sally) Pierre; Laurel (Tom )Jones, Billings, Mont.; and Monte (Nancy), Buffalo, Wyo.; 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-greatgrandchildren, four brothers and two sisters.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife Tracy; brothers Robert, Bud and Roy; sister Dora; and granddaughter Patty Lynn.
