Harriett E. Smejkal, age 85, of 208 Huron St., Manitowoc, died Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003, at First Presbyterian Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the memorial service will he the Rev. Larry McCann. Cremation has taken place.

She was born April 10, 1918, in Prophetstown, Ill., daughter of the late Kennard and Irene Lewis Seyller. On Dec. 20, 1941, she married Dr. Walter F. Smejkal at Mayfair Presbyterian Church, Chicago. He preceded her in death Dec. 5, 1994.

Survivors include a son: John Smejkal, Manitowoc; a daughter and son-in-law: Sally and Donald Pankratz, Kiel; three grandchildren: Ian Smejkal, Minneapolis, Minn.; Elizabeth (Lee) Pederson, Mondovi, Wis.; Benjamin Smejkal, Minneapolis, Minn.; a brother and sister-in-law: Dick and Dee Seyller, Fresno, Calif.; and three nieces and four nephews: Pam (Gene) Kallsen, Lynn (Tony) Bennink, Lori Seyller, Mark (Vicki) Seyller, Dave (Robin) Seyller, Jeff (Debbie) Seyller and Greg (Cindy) Seyller. Also surviving are other relatives and many friends. She was also preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law: Kennard and Sally Seyller.

The family will greet relatives and friends at First Presbyterian Church, Manitowoc, from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of service at 10:30 a.m.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Manitowoc Public Library or the memorial of your choice.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

Harriett lived a wonderful and life filled with joy and love for her family and friends. Her fond regard for her community was evidenced in the charitable organizations she participated in throughout her life. She was affectionately known as Happy, Myrtle, Little Feet and Gramcracker.
