Alvin I. Spice, age 79, of 1802 1 Wollmer St., Manitowoc, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be Deacon Robert Drobka with cremation to follow.

He was born Nov. 28, 1923, in Menasha, son of the late John and Elsie Widener Spice. Alvin was a veteran of the United States Navy. On June 27, 1959, he married the former Karen Dejardine at Waukegan, Ill. Alvin and Karen resided in various cities before coming to Manitowoc in 1968. He was employed as a security guard at Mirro Aluminum Co. for many years, retiring in 1983.

Survivors include his wife: Karen Spice, Manitowoc: four sisters: Bernice Winkel, Manitowoc, Joan Wilkinson, Menasha; Donna LaMarche, Neenah; Janet Grapengeiser, Appleton; mother-in-law: Amelia Dejardine and a sister-in-law: Mary (William) Wade. Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was also preceded in death by four brothers: Grover Spice, Gordon Spice, Gerald Spice, Jack Spice; three sisters: Elaine Spice, Thelma Koester, Arrila Spice; five brothers-in-law: Donald Wilkinson, Gary LaMarche, Virgil Koester, Arthur Winkel, John Dejardine; a sister-in-law: Sue Dejardine; and his father-in-law: Ralph Dejardine.

The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc, from 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of service at 11 a.m.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
