NORMAN W. STAALSON
(1916 - 2004)

Norman W. Staalson, age 87, of 1141 Park Row Blvd., Manitowoc, entered eternal rest on Wednesday morning, Jan. 21, 2004 at the residence of his daughter, Karen St. John, and son-in-law, Richard White, 2522 Lakeside Blvd., Manitowoc where he had resided for the past six weeks.

Private memorial services for the family will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, Manitowoc, at a later date.

Norman was born Dec. 1, 1916 in Manitowoc, the son of the late Peter and Myrtle Klose Staalson. He attended and graduated from Lincoln High School. After high school, he continued his education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he received his bachelor's of science degree majoring in bacteriology. During college, Norman was also involved with the ROTC program. After college, he entered the United States Army on May 17, 1942 and was honorably discharged April 18, 1946 with the rank of Captain. After returning to Manitowoc, Norman became employed for 31 years for the City of Manitowoc, retiring as the city health inspector.

Norman was a member of the Manitowoc Yacht Club. He was an advocate of the Woodland Dunes Nature Center and the Salvation Army, both which he strongly supported. Norman greatly enjoyed sailing with friends on Lake Michigan and enjoyed hiking, along the Lake Michigan shoreline at Point Beach State Park.

He is survived by his son: Peter Staalson, Rotterdam, Netherlands; three daughters and sons-in-law: Margaret "Peg" and Dennis Mueller, Milwaukee; Karen St. John and Richard White, Manitowoc; Joan and Alan Linguist, Milwaukee; one sister and brother-in-law: Margie and Leonard Bcrghauser, New Point Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren, two step grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends.

The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 628 N. Water St., Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
