This "tid-bit" was found in a book entitled, "Lamar County Alabama, A History to 1900" by Rose Marie Smith, 1987. This is about the Mordecais:
"Buried treasure: In May of 1888, Mrs. S.J. Mordecai instructed her family, just before she died, that they should dig in the outhouse. When they did so, they found a pitcher containing a gallon and a half of silver and $240.00 in gold. In all there was $700.00, all in very old coins."
