Connie J. Bingen

Connie J. Bingen, 90, of West Bend, died on Friday, June 7, 2002 at St. Joseph's Community Hospital.

He was born on Sept. 5, 1911 in the town of Addison to the late George and Genevieve (nee Mechenich) Bingen, and married Elvi R. Sarrnen on Feb. 7, 1941, at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church, West Bend.

Elvi passed away on Nov. 8, 1986.

Connie served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an instructor of heavy equipment operation.

Following his discharge, the couple settled in the town of Phelps where he served as a supervisor and town chairman for seven years and as a member of the Vilas County Board for two years.

In 1955 they returned to West Bend where he lived until the time of his death.

For 30 years Connie worked as a heavy equipment operator in road construction for various companies. He then worked for the city of West Bend street department for nine years, and in retirement worked part time at the St. Vincent DePaul store.

He was a member of Local 139 Operating Engineers and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1393 since 1969.

Connie had proudly donated over 15 gallons of blood through the West Bend Donors Club.

Survivors include two children, Connie Jr. (Kathleen) of Knowles and Gretchen (Robert) Ross of St. Cloud, Minn; four grandchildren, Kim (Erik) Lefeber, Sara (Keith) Gremminger, Jim (Paula) Bingen and Kenzie (Paul) Wickmann; five great-grandchildren, Dakota, Montana, Bo, Hallie and Hunter; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were four brothers and five sisters.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 12, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Church.

Fr. Michael Petersen will be the presider, and inurnment will take place at a later date in St. Mary's Cemetery, Phelps.
