Orphaned at a young age in Philadelphia, as a child Mr. Gorman went to southern Maryland and worked on a farm. He later went to Washington, DC where he learned the tailoring business and joined the firm of Edward Potbury Co. He worked there until the death of his wife , Catherine Corrigan Gorman, in 1928, at which point he retired. Mr. Gorman was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Holy Name Society.
At the time of his death Mr. Gorman was living with a niece, Mrs. Henry Kunold, in Ednor, MD. He had been in good health, went to sleep in his chair and never awoke. Preceded in death by his wife, sons Clarence R. and Stephen A. Gorman, his only remaining son, Rev. Francis B. Gorman, O. P. celebrated a requiem mass at St. Dominic's Church in his honor.
