Eddie Sylvester Byrd, 72, of Jasper, Texas went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 16, 2019.

Eddie was born on December 21, 1946 to William Lee and Gladys Marie Byrd in DeRidder, Louisiana.

He was a proud graduate of Newton High School where he played football. He loved the Newton Eagles and was a lifelong supporter of the football program. He would travel back to Newton, or wherever they were playing whenever he could.

Eddie married the love of his life, Lynda Prewitt, in 1966. They enjoyed almost 53 years of life together. Lynda stated that Eddie was passionate about three things; "Eddie was a Prayer Warrior of the highest caliber, his family and the Newton Eagles."

Family held a special place in Eddie's heart, he would do anything for family, He and Lynda raised their nephew, Joseph as their son, in their eyes, he is their son.

When he was younger, Eddie enjoyed fishing and hunting, except during football season! He was a jokester, always willing to pick on someone and have a good laugh. Eddie loved the Lord, he was forgiving and had a servant's heart, he was always the peacekeeper. His son Eddie said that his father was the foundation of his life and lived his life as an example for him. Eddie didn't just talk about his faith, he lived it.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." II Timothy 4:7.

Eddie is preceded in death by his parents, William Lee and Gladys Nichols Byrd, his sister, Iva Lee Brittian and his brother, Jimmy Lester Byrd.

Eddie is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lynda Prewitt Byrd, his daughter, Darinda Roxanne Medcalf and husband, Randall, his sons, Eddie Lynn Byrd and Joseph Daniel Prewitt and wife, Sarah, his grandson, Hunter Cole Prewitt, his brother, Ricky Wayne Byrd, his sisters, Loyce Marie Arreola and Melda Gladys Arreola, his great niece, Ivalee Elizabeth Calhoun, his great nephews, James Edward Lee Brittian and Gerald Wayne Calhoun, as well as numerous other family members, and a host of friends.

The Family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 from 10~11am in the Chapel of Forest Oaks Funeral Home in Jasper, Texas. Services Honoring the Life of Eddie S. Byrd will begin at 11am.
Burial will follow immediately at Zion Hill Cemetery on Hwy 96 South in Jasper, Texas.
