George and Elizabeth were living in mecklenburg County in the 1850 census ;George listed as 26 and a carpenter ,Elizabeth as 24 ;four children Mary Frances , Emily .John and Roberta.
George followed his carpenters trade and was one of the carpenters that worked on the old covered bridge over the Dan River in South Boston. Bridge was pegged together.
By 1860 George and his expanding family had moved to Halifax county to work on the bridge. It is known that George"s parents and some older brothers and sisters had already moved to Halifax County.

In 1880 George and Elizabeth are living in the Black Walnut District;with many of their adult children married and moved on ;Geroge is listed as undertaker and wheelwright four children James H. , William T. , George R and Willis M.
On 1 January 1883 George died after returning home the day before in the rain. He left his fiddle with his daughter as he did not want to take a chance of it getting wet. After breakfast he stepped outside to check the timber that had been delivered days before to build his new house . Checking the timber is where he dropped dead ,cause unknow. a carpenter and musician with a very productive life.
Special to me because two of his daughters are my gg grandmothers ;Mary Frances Wilkinson Wilkins and Sallie Elizabeth [Gally] Puryear.
George has two brothers and one son buried in Wieland Cemetery in Hunt County Texas. They are as listed brother John O. Wilkinson 1818 memorial 44832275 find a grave ,brother Frances Marion Wilkinson memorial 153593788 find a grave and his son John Overby Wilkinson memorial 197150808 find a grave.
