Nancy Emelia Tuschl Winkler, 70, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 at Evergreen Retirement Community in Oshkosh from complications of rheumatoid arthritis.
Nancy was born to the late Roman and Albina (Rezek) Tuschel on Dec. 25, 1942 in Manitowoc. On June 20, 1964 she married Eugene F. Winkler Jr.
Nancy was the first in her family to attend college. She completed college in just three years, graduating in 1963 magna cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in Education from Wisconsin State College in Oshkosh.
Nancy taught physical education in Kiel from 1963 to 1966 and was a physical education specialist for K-6 in the Oshkosh Area School District from 1968 to 1969.
Nancy earned her a master of science Education in Counselor Education from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in the fall of 1990. She was employed by Cooperative Education Services Agency #6 in Oshkosh from 1985 until her retirement in 1998. She worked throughout her career on providing teacher training in human growth and development topics, gender equity and health/wellness education. She was also an ad hoc professor at UW-LaCrosse from 1994 to 1998, supervising health education practice teachers.
She is survived by her husband and two daughters, Monica Winkler of Madison and Kate Winkler of Oshkosh; as well as one grandson, Kevin Schraa of Oshkosh. She is further survived by her three sisters and two brothers, Charlotte (Bob) Kutil of Branch, Ruth (Howard) Delsman of Whitelaw, Marvin (Mona) Tuschel Marrero La. Tom (Mary) Tuschel of Oshkosh, and Cathy (Jim) Fox of Oshkosh.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents. A memorial service for Nancy will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12 at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 830 S. Westhaven Dr., Oshkosh. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. A light lunch will be served after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted for the Eugene and Nancy Winkler Scholarship Fund at UW-Oshkosh College of Education and Human Services. Fox Cities Funeral & Cremation Services in Oshkosh is assisting the family.
