He was born March 19, 1948, in Paragould, the son of J. C. Dollins and Betty Ross Ratton Hyde. After graduating in 1966 from Paragould High School, he went on to receive a B.S. in physical education from Arkansas State University.
In 1969, Jay married his beloved high school sweetheart, Karen Hendrix. In his professional life, Jay was a boilermaker, retiring from Boilermakers Local 169 of Detroit, Michigan. He was proud of his work and passionate about helping others.
Family and friends remember him as being extremely funny; he loved to make others laugh through his entertaining storytelling. He was adventurous in nature; his hobbies included being a pilot, hunter, rescue scuba diver, motorcycle lover and doing about anything that involved an element of danger.
What he loved most was spending time with his wife, his two daughters and his grandchildren. He loved that Jodi lived in Gainesville, and he was often seen at Jake and Grant's ballgames. He adored them and devoted his life to making them happy. His family meant everything to him.
Survivors include his wife, Karen of Paragould; daughters Dana Cox and husband Jack of Paragould, and Jodi Leeker and husband Tom of Gainesville; four adored grandchildren, Shelby Cox Plunk and husband Brennan of Fouke, Arkansas, Anna Cox of Paragould, and Jake and Grant Leeker of Gainesville; six sisters Bonida Poynor, Chris May, Kellie Bankos, Nonie Wiggins, Pat Burns and Fritzi Janes.
