Albert L. Abbott, age 74, of Mattoon passed away at 2:19 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital.

Funeral Services honoring his life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2019 at Schilling Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Boldt officiating. Burial with Military Rites will follow at Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at the funeral home.

Albert was born on March 25, 1944 in Mattoon the son of Glen and Lula (Guillion). He married Carol Thomas on March 13, 1964.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; Sons, Brent (Lacee) Abbott of Toledo and Doug (Carrin) Abbott of Charleston; Grandchildren, Mason, Anakin, Hayden, Samuel, and Lucas; brothers Robert (Mary) Abbott and Merlyn Abbott; sisters Eva (Rex) Closson and Glenda (Mike) Webster; special friend and mentor Jack Allen and friend Dennis "Woody" Wooden; and his canine companions Duke and Sparky.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son Ronald; and brothers, Roger, Bill, and Clark Abbott.

Albert served honorably in The United States Army during the Vietnam War. He is a past member of The Eagles, Moose, and American Legion clubs. Albert was a founding member of the Tri County RC Club where he was affectionately known as "The Fly-N-Fool".

He worked at Blaw Knox and various other factories as a welder throughout the years. Albert loved anything and everything about all types of racing. He was an avid NASCAR and Jeff Gordon fan. Albert could build, fix, and weld just about anything. He loved motorcycles and traveling with Carol. He will be missed by all who knew him.
