James Mehaffey Adams Jr. passed away peacefully on May 14, 2007 after a short illness. Born in Atlanta, Georgia on October 3, 1923, Jim Adams spent his childhood in Chattanooga, Tennessee. After serving in the Navy during WWII, he earned his engineering degree at the University of Virginia. Upon graduation he began his career with a major oil company on the tiny island of Aruba in the Dutch Antilles. There he met his wife Barbara and together they raised a family and began a journey that would cover five countries and last a lifetime. They traveled the world in pursuit of his career, living in Aruba, Greece, England, Libya and the USA, Jim and Barbara were avid golfers and they played the game in their travels. One memorable trip found them playing the venerable golf courses in Scotland including Carnoustie, Glen Eagles, and the unforgettable old course at St. Andrews. After retirement, Jim and Barbara settled in southwest Florida to enjoy the sunshine, golf and the company of family and friends. Jim is survived by his wife Barbara, his four children; Diana, James III, Marjorie & Robert, as well as four grandchildren; Taylor, Jason, Stacy & Roxanna. Jim Adams was a loyal husband, a loving father, and a quality individual that will be greatly missed by his family. Rest in peace Dad.
