Joseph Edward "Jo Ed" Abbott, 82, of Lynchburg, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2019. He was the husband of Lee Furnari Abbott and also survived by a sister, Dorothy Wiseman; two nephews, David Wiseman (Beth), Mark Wiseman (Debbie); a niece, Linda Sorrell; and his companion, Hank. Born in Bedford on July 21, 1936, he was a son of the late Frank and Lizzie Logwood Abbott and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Kathaleen Ingram and Francis White. Joe was a U.S. Marine Veteran having served from 1955 to 1958 and was promoted to Sergeant while serving in Beirut Lebanon and retired from Lynchburg Police Department after 32 years of service and worked part-time at CVCC in security for 16 years. He was a member of Moose Lodge 715, American Legion Post 16 and loved to garden. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 6, 2019, in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service by the Rev. Jack Barrett with military honors to follow in Virginia Memorial Park The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at Heritage Funeral Service, 427 Graves Mill Road.
