Joyce Thompkins Russell, 69, of Stanfield, NC passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Carolinas Healthcare System - NorthEast in Concord, NC.
Joyce was born September 24, 1947 in Pike County, Alabama to the late Ralph Rodney Thompkins and the late Rosa Lee Pearson Thompkins.
The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Jeff Springer, will be at 11am on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Big Lick Baptist Church, 626 Big Lick Rd., Oakboro, NC. At other times, the family will be gathering at the home.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Robert Roger Russell of Stanfield, NC; daughter, Cindy Wallace and husband Steve of Range, AL; grandchildren, Jessica Brantley and husband Mitchell of Excel, AL, Heather Wallace of Mineola, AL, and BreAnn Wallace of Excel, AL; great-grandchildren, Blakely and Sara Brantley, both of Excel, AL; siblings, Margaret Tondee and husband Donald, MaryNell Lewis, Billy Thompkins and wife Rita, all of Americus, GA, Paul Thompkins of Talking Rock, GA, David Thompkins and wife Trudy of Buena Vista, GA; special niece and nephew, Patty and Jerry Russell of Oakboro; numerous other nieces and nephews; and her fur baby, Misty.
Joyce was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was a faithful member of Big Lick Baptist Church. She was a former Sunday school teacher, and volunteer with the DAV Auxillary #12. She enjoyed spending time with her family and reading. Joyce will be sorely missed by all those who knew her.
