Ethel Underwood, 81, of Fayetteville, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015 at her home. Born on October 7, 1933 in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late Verner and Ada Martin Avis. Mrs. Underwood was a member of Cotton Hill Missionary Baptist Church at Beckwith. She was a member of Oak Hill Senior Center and enjoyed traveling with her friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Underwood in 1995 and three brothers. Left to cherish her memory include her two daughters, Sherry (Jeffrey) McKnight of Fayetteville and Cathy (Tim) Harvey of Princeton; son, Virgil (Liz) Underwood of Madison; one sister, Edith Jarrett of Fayetteville; brother, Ernest Avis of Oak Hill; ten grandchildren: Seth, Caleb, Shannan, Tabitha, Joseph, Adriane, Jason, Adam, Patrick, and Katie; 20 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, March 12, 2015 Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Sears officiating. Entombment will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.
