Jan attended Alma College where she enjoyed her Sorority, being a majorette, her time on court, and the Vice Presidency of the French Club. She met the love of her life there; James (Jim) Wagar. She graduated in 1956 (she is a Thistle Club member) and married Jim on the campus of Alma College at the Chapel. She spent her first year after graduating as a Social Worker in Drayton Plains, Michigan. She and Jim moved back to the middle of Michigan where she did her graduate studies at Michigan State University and selected a career change to Elementary Education. Jan spent most of her 32 plus years teaching at the Breckenridge Elementary School where she loved her co-workers and students. While teaching she started many innovative programs and was selected as Teacher of the Year.
Jan retired from education in 1994.In her retirement years she enjoyed summers in Charlevoix where she volunteered at the local hospital, had fun with her art loving group of “River Rats”, the Monday morning coffee clutch, and her grandchildren. While in Florida she volunteered at the local Boys and Girls Club, volunteered countless hours in her golf community, enjoyed the companionship of her Bible study, and loved her local chapter of Red Hatters.
She was known for sweet compliments and endless love pats. Her favorite moments were spent with her grandchildren. Jan was a true giver and a bucket load of fun. Jan was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jim (58 years of marriage), her sister Sandra (Anderson) Murray, parents Ann and George Anderson.
She is survived by her children Cynthia (Scott) Boss and son Todd (Janice) Wagar, and grandchildren Canadace (Scott) Boss-Treat, K. Hunter Boss, Madeline Boss, Todd J. Wagar, and Venice Wagar.
A graveside family memorial will be held in the summer of 2019 with a celebration of life luncheon to follow in Alma, Michigan.
