George is the son of Sheldon Barnes and Polly Wheeler, married Elizabeth Sherman,August 12, 1853, had seven known children George Barnes, (familiarly known as "Deacon George" to distinguish him from others of the same name, "Devil George", of Clarksfield, and "English George" of Wakeman) was born May 13, 1825, and was married to Elizabeth Sherman, daughter of Peter Sherman, of Wakeman, Aug. 12, 1853, and died Dec. 29, 1888. They lived on a small farm at the northeast corner of Lot 66, but afterward moved to the center road east of Wakeman to Lot 77, on the farm next west of the Peter Sherman farm.
