She graduated from J.O. Johnson High School in 1979. Her strong-will, determination and fun-loving nature attracted the attention of her classmate, Willie, which began a relationship that lasted 41 years.
After graduation, Carolyn attended Alabama A&M University and was temporarily employed as a clerk-typist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Carolyn Reedus and Willie Lee Fearn Jr., were married December 22, 1984 and they moved to Atlanta, GA where he was finishing school. When their plans to come back home changed, they settled into their life in Georgia with the desire of one day returning. She accepted a position as a clerk-typist with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and started work on January 21, 1985, a day she would always remember because it was one of the coldest days ever recorded in Atlanta (-8°F). Carolyn advanced from a Computer Specialist trainee to Systems Administrator before retiring September 30, 2017 with 34 years of dedicated service.
Carolyn and Willie’s union was blessed with three children: Stephanie Sadeʹ, Kendrick Omar and Amy Alisheva. Carolyn was a loving wife and a nurturing mother who was dedicated to instilling in them the values she had learned as a young child.
Carolyn joined the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. In 2000, the First Comfort Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur, GA became her church home where she served on the Deaconess Board and the Usher Board.
Carolyn had a sweet spirit that shined through her out-spoken, unpretentious and “no nonsense” personality. She touched the lives of those who knew her. She enjoyed fishing and was happiest being around and spending time with her siblings, family and friends savoring the food she had prepared. She left home, but home never left her.
She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory her devoted husband of 34 years, Willie L. Fearn Jr., daughter, Stephanie (Antonio) Thurmond, son, Kendrick, daughter, Amy; “Grand Baby”, Kasey Autumn, and grandson, Dominick Dwayne; Sisters: Emma Burt, Barbara (Jim) Nance, Anna Rene Reedus and Burnestine (Eric) Allison; Brothers: Billy (Beverly) Reedus and Bob Cain; Sisters-in-law; Cynthia Hargrove and Rev. Chryll Diane Crews; Brothers-in-law: Michael (Lucretia) Fearn and Jeffery (Anne) Fearn; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; a special cousin, Jo Ann Rice and her co-workers at the IRS.
Funeral service will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Round Island Creek Mission Center (13829 Lucas Ferry Road Athens, AL 35611). Interment will be in Faith Memorial Park. Mrs. Fearn will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.
