OBITUARY: Sent to me by Millie Brown a descendant of Hiram R. Lemonds & Eliza J. (Day) Lemonds.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 P.M. from the P.R. Kelley home north of Hastings, for H.R. Lemonds, one of the pioneer settlers of Mills county, who died at the home of his daughter Mrs. Kelley on Thursday, Jun 21, following an illness of several weeks from ailments incident to old age. Services were in charge of Rev Horton of Wesley Chapel. Music was furnished by the Wesley Chapel Choir. The pallbearers were sons & sons-in-law, Clarence Lemonds, A.P. Lemonds, James Lemonds, Elmer Lemonds, B.A. Reynolds, and S.E. Chambers. Interment was made in the Malvern cemetery on the family lot beside the grave of his wife who preceded him in death by some eight years.

Mr. Lemonds united with the church thirty five years ago and lived faithful to its teachings. He was a man highly respected by his neighbors and all who came in contact with him were instinctively attracted to him by his kindly attitude toward his fellow man.

Hiram R. Lemonds was born in Indiana May 3, 1844, and died June 21, 1923, aged 79 years, 1 month & 18 days. When a young man he moved with his parents to Monroe county IA. In that county on *May 10, 1865* he was united in marriage with Eliza J. Day. Fifty-five years ago Mr. & Mrs. Lemonds and family came to Mills county, and here they lived until death called them. His wife passed from earth eight years ago.

There mourns him nine children, forty grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren. Beside these of his immediate family he is survived by three brothers, Stephen Lemonds of Pawnee City, Neb., James Lemonds of Okla., and George Lemonds of Lovilla, IA. The children surviving him are Elmer A., James M., Sioux Falls, S.D., Allen P. of Hawarden, IA., Clarence E. of Hastings; Mrs. P .R. Kelley of Hastings; Mrs. Fred Bishop, Mr. M.D. Linville, Mrs. P.A. Reynolds, Mrs. S.E. Chambers of Glenwood.

Those present at the funeral from a distance were the two sons from Sioux Falls, S.D. and the son from Hawarden, a brother Stephen Lemonds & nephew, Robert Lemonds of Pawnee City, Neb. and a brother-in-law Silas Day of Albia, Iowa.
