Joel "Joey" Rufus Messer, 82, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2007, at his home in Greenwell Springs. He served and defended his country with the U.S. Army during World War II and reenlisted with the U.S. Air Force, totaling more than 23 years. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. His family and friends will miss him dearly.

Visitation at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, until service. Graveside service at Morgantown Cemetery, Morgantown, Miss., conducted by the Rev. David Jenkins and the Rev. Donald Bryan.

He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Beckey Messer Hedglin and Jennifer and Frank Connors; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Charlotte Messer; four grandchildren, Jonathan Messer, Danny and Chris Hedglin, and Kayli Connors; four great-grandchildren, Bryce and Alyssa Messer, Lauren and Meghan Hedglin; brother, Luther Messer; and very close family friend, Tiffanie Stewart.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Deloria Jeanette Morgan Messer; parents, William Rufus Messer and Florence Rollins Messer; grandson, Frankie Connors; and two sisters.
