VERONA, VA - Rochelle Monta-
gue Harrison Flowers , widow of
Guilford Van Buren Flowers , died on
Monday, September 17, 2001 at home
in Verona, VA.

She is survived by two sons and
their families, Vann Guilford Flow-
ers, and wife Flo and granddaugh-
ter, Leslie Zylyn, of Roanoke, VA
and Arthur Calvin Flowers and his
partner, Thomas "Scooter" Grego-
ry, with whom she made her home
over the past six years. Mrs. Flowers
also leaves a sister, Nancy Harrison
Flowers and her husband, E. Paul
Flowers of Chapel Hill, NC , along
with numerous nieces, nephews and
cousins. Her brother, Arthur Bryant
Cadvin Harrison and his wife, Lillian
O'Rourke Harrison, of Charleston
SC predecease her.

A Wake County native, she gradu-
ated from Hugh Morrison High
School in 1931 and married G.V.
Flowers on December 22, 1939. Dur-
ing the years of World War II, they
lived in Hattesburg, MS and Annapo-
lis, MD while Mr. Flowers served in
the Army. Afterwards they lived in
Edenton, NC and later settled in
Richmond, VA from 1950 until 1965.
From 1965 until 1980 Mrs. Flowers
lived in Virginia Beach, VA. During
this time she saw both sons reach
adulthood and leave the home as well
as her husband becoming ill and
eventually passing away.

In 1980 she retired from the Ameri-
can Red Cross and moved back to
Raleigh. There, for the next 14 years
she thoroughly enjoyed proximity
and involvement within a large net-
work of family and friends. In 1994
she relocated to Augusta County, VA
where she, in spite of declining
health, remained involved and cher-
ished in the life of her two sons and
their families.

Funeral services will be in Knight-
dale, NC , 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Sep-
tember 20, 2001 at L. Harold Poole
Funeral Service Chapel. Interment
will follow at the New Cemetery of
Knightdale Baptist Church.

The family will receive relatives
and friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
Wednesday, September 19, 2001 at L.
Harold Poole Funeral Service and
Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road
Knightdale, NC 27545.

In lieu of flowers , respects may be
offered through a contribution to the
Alzheimer's Association or any
Adult Day Health Care Facility.
