Family members said that Richard Edward Carta was buried at this cemetery and there is no record of his grave being moved and there is no record of him being anywhere else. In 1930 the First United Methodist Church relocated and built their new Church on this location. It is stated by the Val Verde Historical Commission that some of the graves were relocated but some were not. Also, the adjoining street name was changed to Pecan street from Cemetery Street. Richard Edward Carta, now has one of the biggest and most beautiful monuments ever, the Methodist Church. After everyone else was killed by Indians, Richard Edward Carta was left as an orphan and found in far West Texas by a family that took him to Mexico. He was raised there until he was old enough to make his way to Fort Clark Springs now Brackettville, Texas. Therefore, his exact date of birth is unknown. He stated on the 1900 census that Sept. 1857 was his date of birth. His death certificate says 4 Feb 1856 is his date of birth.
