Edwin was born August 18, 1925 in Mecklenburg County, the eldest son of the late John Braxton Hooks and Nona Hooks . He is survived by his brother, Paul Brevard Hooks of Matthews; his two sisters, Betty Hooks Karnes of La Grange, Illinois and Patsy Hooks Lemmond of Matthews, North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sadie Hooks Hornback and his two brothers, Stanley Reid Hooks and Stephen Lane Hooks .
Edwin served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ft. Eustis, VA. He retired from Concrete Supply Company, and spent many happy years enjoying gardening and fishing, as well as family and friends, who will miss him sorely.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at McEwen Funeral Home in Mint Hill, conducted by Dr. Ken Lyon of Matthews United Methodist Church, where Edwin was a lifelong member. The family will receive visitors at McEwen Mint Hill an hour prior to the services. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Parkin Charlotte.
The family extends grateful appreciation to the nurses and caregivers of the Wesley Nursing Center, Second Floor.
