Long time St. Ignace resident Gussie Leupnitz, 99, who spent winters at Oldsmar, Florida, died at the Dunedin Care Center Thursday, December 5. She was born in Cheboygan in 1903 and married August Kaminsky in 1927 and he preceded her in death in 1933. She married Joseph W. Leupnitz in 1939 and he preceded her in death in 1987. She was also preceded in death by a step-son James Leupnitz in 1983 and a step-granddaughter Karen Pugh in 2000.
She enjoyed participating in ladies social groups and lifetime hobbies of crocheting and tatting. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of St. Ignace.
Survivors include a daughter Avis and Otto Peppel of Bay City, a son Larry Kaminsky of Safety Harbor, Florida, a daughter Virginia and Bernard Leonard of Hale, a step-daughter-in-law Betty Leupnitz Szeszulski, six granddaughters, two grandsons; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Louise Lowetz of Brevort Lake; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Sunday, December 8, at Hyatt-Ewald Funeral Home in Bay City. Burial was at Floral Gardens Cemetery in Bay City. Published in the St. Ignace News, December 12, 2002.
