Helen Martin Minter, 61, of Amherst, passed away on March 19, 2019, surrounded by her four loving children. Born on September 24, 1957, in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Lee Martin and Naomi Ruth Mays Martin of Amherst. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Matris Louise Martin. She has been reunited with her soulmate and husband of forty-two years, Timothy V. Minter. Helen is survived by her four children, James Silas Minter (Stacy) of Forest, Jacob Gray Minter (Erin) of Madison Heights, Nichole Minter Dowdy (Chris) of Amherst, and Maureen Minter Puckett (James) of Gladys. Also surviving are her three sisters, Naomi Toler (Russell) of Rustburg, Marion Hartless (Bruce) of Monroe, and Jane Tomlin (Billy) of Madison Heights, along with many other special family members. Helen (Granny) also leaves to cherish her memory, her six grandchildren, Grayson and Ellee Dowdy of Amherst, Leah and Daniel Minter of Madison Heights, and Cole and Casen Puckett of Gladys. Helen was a devoted wife and mother her entire life. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. For more than twenty years, she was a beloved employee of Winton Country Club, where she touched so many lives within her community. Most recently she was employed by Amherst County High School where she was adored by students, faculty, and staff. Helen will be most remembered for her kind nature and willingness to care for others. Her warm and fun loving spirit will live on and continue to touch anyone who knew her. Her family would like to sincerely thank the medical staff for their excellent care at the Acute Rehab at Virginia Baptist Hospital and the CTICU at Lynchburg General Hospital. Family night will be held at Whitten Monelison Chapel, Sunday, March 24, 2019, from 3 until 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 25, 2019, at 1 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Amherst. There will be a graveside service following at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service at Helen's home in Amherst.
