"William J. Ames, 71, formerly of Grand Gorge, died Wednesday, Oct. 3 in Cobleskill Community hospital following a short illness. Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 6, in the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford. The Rev. Philip S. Watters, pastor of the Grand Gorge Methodist church, officiated. Burial was in Stamford Cemetery. Mr. Ames was born April 22, 1891, in Stamford, son of Jefferson and Della (Van Hoesen) Ames. He married Hattie E. Egnor January I5, 1914 in Hobart. Mr. Ames owned and operated an upholstery business in the Stamford area for 30 years until ill health forced his retirement. Mr. Ames had been living with his son, Franklin Ames in Worcester, since his retirement. He is survived by his wife, his son, one sister, Mrs. C. E. Baird, Stamford, two grandsons, Roger and Donald Ames, Worcester; and several nieces and nephews."
