He is the son of the late Wilson Bird Smith and Sarah Adara [Harvey] Smith.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church and UMWA. He enjoyed hunting and was a baseball fan. He was a United States Army veteran and served during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet E. Smith, on February 20, 2001; seven brothers, Orville, Lawrence, James, Earl, Clarence, Russell, and Jack; and two sisters, Hazel Diehl and Anna Louise Smith.
Survivors include a son, George "Dickie" Bartusiak; and a daughter, Teddy Sue Legursky; two stepsons, Gerry Stover and Charles Stover; a stepdaughter, Diana Stover; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Service at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2001, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Prosperity, with the Rev. Roger Pauley officiating. Entombment in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity, West Virginia.
