Martha Jane Abbott, 97, of Inlet Coastal Resort Memory Care, Murrells Inlet, SC, formerly of Mebane, NC and Dudley, PA, went to be with her Lord on January 16, 2019 with her niece Sandy Moyle by her side.
Born in Dudley on August 12, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Robert Bruce and Flora (Sweet) Abbott.
She was a graduate of Saxton Liberty High School and later became a licensed beautician and worked for many years at Masood’s IGA where she retired from. She had contributed to the war effort by working at the Corning Factory in Huntingdon during WWII making insulation for war ships. After the war she returned to Dudley where she lived most of her life in the house on 2nd street where she was born, took care of her parents when they became ill, and was very involved in the Methodist Church her parents helped to establish where she was a lifelong member. She was a member of the local quilting club which was a source of fellowship and joy for her in her later years. She loved her family very much including her many nieces and nephews.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family being preceded in death by her parents, two older brothers Robert Daniel Abbott and Richard Paul Abbott, and three sisters, Sara Abbott Coulter and Ruth Abbott Howells both older and her younger sister, Mary Abbott Moyle.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at the Dudley Methodist Church at 10:30 AM with Rev Kym Eichelberger officiating. Interment will follow in the Dudley Methodist Cemetery.
