Marcella Prendergast was born at Peru, Illinois, in 1876, the daughter of Patrick and Mary Prendergast. She was married to Richard Purcell at Streator, Illinois, on September 14, 1898. They lived for many years at Streator, where they operated a department store. They later moved to Chicago. She died there on December 30, 1958.
Funeral services were held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Chicago. She was survived by her husband, two grandsons and four great-grandchildren; she was also survived by two brothers and five sisters. She was preceded in death by her daughter Helen (Larkin).
