James Copeland Atkinson III, age 79, a long-time resident of Pike County, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta.
He was born September 30, 1933 at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. James served in the US Navy and was a proud Veteran of the Korean War. After working 33 years for Eastern Airlines he was very successful in transitioning to full-time retirement.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Jane Gregg Atkinson; sons, Gregg Atkinson of Riverton, Wyoming and wife Karen; Scott Atkinson of Atlanta, and wife Alison; Clay Atkinson of Atlanta, and wife Stephanie; Todd Atkinson of Decatur; his six grandchildren; Copeland Atkinson, Jacob Atkinson, James Atkinson, Mather Atkinson, Sophia Atkinson and Wyn Atkinson; his sister-in-law; Patsy Gregg; his 3 nephews; William (Joe) Gregg, Lee Gregg and Brad Gregg; and his 2 nieces; Stacey Vickers and Whitney Butler.

Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2012 in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home
