Berry Eugene Gipson, age 80 of Decherd, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019 at Elk River Health and Rehabilitation of Winchester. A native of Franklin County, he was born in Sewanee on July 26, 1938 to the late Erskin Berry and Hattie Marie (Gudger) Gipson. Berry served his country in the United States Marine Corp and later retired from Duck River Electric Corporation. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed working on his tractor and with his cattle. Berry was very passionate about taking care of his yard and barn. A member of Greenhaw Baptist Church, he treasured his church family. Berry’s family will remember him for his kind, loving, sweet personality…he was truly “a ray of sunshine.” In addition to his parents, Berry is preceded in death by his sister, Betty Ann Gipson; and brother, Wayne Gipson. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Georgia Gipson of Decherd; daughters, Kathy (Michael) Gonyea of Winchester, and Patty (Eric) Wilkerson of Decherd; brothers, James Gipson of Sewanee, and Richard Gipson of Sewanee; grandchildren, Rachelle Short, Brandon Gonyea, Noah Fults, Abagael Fults, Kyle Hutchings, and Chloe Wilkerson; and great-grandchildren, Ethan Short, Emily Short, and Skylar Short. Visitation will be from 11 am-2 pm Friday, April 5, 2019 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 pm in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Rev. Donald Gregory, Rev. Kevin Murphy, and Rev. John Gipson officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens with military honors bestowed.
