Dorothy Louise Thorson, 85, formerly of Somers, died Tuesday February 1, 2005 at the Tompkins Memorial Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 5, 2005 at the Somers United Methodist Church with the Rev. Crystal Oberheu officiating. Interment will follow in the Fort Dodge Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

Dorothy was born June 12, 1919 the daughter of William and Esther (Williams) Hinds in Fort Dodge, IA.

Dorothy graduated from the Fort Dodge Senior High School with the class of 1937 and continued her education at the Tobin Business School graduating in 1939. On April 11, 1941 Dorothy was united in marriage to Russell E. Thorson. The couple made their home in Somers were Dorothy resided for more than 50 years. On April 5, 1959 Dorothy began working as a clerk in the Somers Post Office. She became the Post Master on December 1, 1979 and held that position until her retirement in 1985.

Over Dorothy's life she has been involved in many activities including; Girl Scouts, being a Boy Scout Den Mother, volunteering with the American Red Cross, and Easter Seals. She has always been a very strong Cub fan, and enjoyed going to her grandchildren's sporting events. Dorothy was very involved with the Somers United Methodist Church being the treasurer of the ladies aid.

Those thankful for having shared in Dorothy's life include her three daughters; Jeri (Dennis) Chase of Otho, Jeanne Howrey of Sergeant Bluff, Mariann (Rich) Penner of Lakewood, CO, one daughter in law Sandra Thorson of Fort Dodge, ten grandchildren; Lynnette (Dave) Heatherington, Robert (Kristin) Thorson, Scott Chase, Tamela (Bruce) Antle, Jenny (Jeremy) Kennedy, Christen Howrey, Kimberly Loofe, Darin (Cami) Howrey, Amanda Lane, Mitchell Lane, 15 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Thorson was preceded in death by her parents, husband Russell, one brother; Neil Hinds, two sons; Douglas and Jon Thorson.
