ELK RAPIDS — Funeral services for John Acker, 84, who died
Tuesday evening at the home of his son Paul at Williamsburg, will be held at the Dochery-Wilhelm funeral chapel here on Friday at 2:00 a.m. The Rev. Alvin Doten of Traverse City will officiate. Burial will be in Circle Hill cemetery at Williamsburg.
Mr. Acker was born at Central Lake, May 10,1875, the fourth and last child of John and Elizabeth Acker. The family moved to Elk Rapids when he was two, and later moved to a farm south of here. In 1905 he married Helena Fox of North Milton. She died in 1908. In 1910 he married Mathilda Robb in Madison, Wisconsin. The couple moved to Williamsburg in 1914.
Mr. Acker was a poultry fancier, exhibiting his birds at many of the shows In the north central states. He farmed at Williamsburg for many years, and was custodian of the Williamsburg school for 17 years.
Preceding him in death were his wife Mathilda, a daughter Gertrude, and one grandchild.
Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth Powers of Jackson, and Mrs. Lucy Hawley of Muskegon; two sons, Paul Acker and William Robb of Williamsburg, 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
