The son of Elizabeth Rebecca nee Leedham and William Whitehead he was baptised on the 16th of January 1846 in Elsham, North Lincolnshire, England. The 1851 Census shows that he is part of a large family:

Leedham Whitehead immigrated with his family to New Zealand before 1961. In July 1867 Leedham Whitehead married Charlotte Wrathall, and they separated in 1868 shortly before their only child William Henry George was born in the Bay of Islands, Northland in 1868.
After Leedham and his wife Charlotte separated Charlotte and Leedham's younger brother George went on to have their own large family in Kaeo, and possibly Leedham went on to have another family in the Coromandel.
Leedham passed away at Te Puia Hospital on the 15th of November 1931.
