MISS LELIA MacGOWAN, a Memphis resident for more than 80 years, died at 6 last night at the Home for Incurables after a five-year illness. She was 80. Born in Bartlett, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Sarah MacGowan, early settlers of the community. Miss MacGowan attended the old Clara Conway School for Girls and Mary Baldwin Seminary at Staunton, Virginia. She lived for years near the Conway School on College.
At one time Miss MacGowan operated a cake shop. She was a member of the Calvary Episcopal Church and of the King's Daughters. She leaves no immediate relatives. National Funeral Home has charge. ~~~ THE COMMERCIAL APPEAL, Memphis, TN, Dec. 14, 1955, page 47
