Bertha Pearson, was born on Saturday, October 31, 1908, in Saint Francisville, Louisiana. She was the youngest child of Lodie and Burl Foley.
Bertha and her mother, Lodie and sisters Sally, Lucy, Alice, and Lena moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1918. Bertha joined the User Board at Grant Memorial Methodist Church where she met, and eventually married John Wesley Williams. To this Union was born a daughter, Rose Esther. Bertha later married her soul mate, Richard Pearson, on Tuesday, March 10, 1942. After Rose Esther died, Bertha and Richard raised her sons, Gregory and Rodney.
Bertha worked for the Board of Education and the State of Illinois Department of Public Health for 30 years. She retired in 1978. Bertha retired from work, but not from activities. She traveled extensively abroad. If you said "Go", she said when and where? She was the Grand Matron of the Eastern Star Truth Chapter #125 O.E.S. Bertha was also a member of the Robichaux Park Seniors, and served as president for several years. All who met her, loved her. She loved to cook and entertain. No one was ever turned away from her table.
Bertha passed on Saturday, July 26, 2003. Bertha, is buried at Lincoln Cemetery, with her husband, grandmother, mother, and sister.
