Joan June Aimerito

Born Joan June Gianessi on Sept 30, 1932, in Springfield, Illinois, to Joe and Minnie, Joan was the first of two children. Her brother Joe passed away in March of 2010.

One month after she graduated from high school Joan married the love of her life Jim Aimerito. After Jim’s days in the U.S. Army, they set up home in Springfield, Illinois. They would have stayed there, however, Joan’s parents moved from Springfield to Bellflower, California. So Jim and Joan packed up their first two kids, Mark and Sylvia, and headed out west settling in Lakewood in 1956. They were blest with three more children - Cindy, Mary, and Jimmie. Joan was widowed in 2008 and is survived by her five children, 13 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. She was happily married to her “hero" for nearly 58 years, before his passing in 2008.

Joan was a dedicated wife and mother. She didn’t care to work outside the house until her youngest was in grade school at St. Bernard’s Catholic School, where Joan took the job as the school secretary. The job was perfect, she said because it allowed her to be with her younger kids during their school day. The hours didn’t interfere with her first priority, that of being a wife and mother.

Joan went on to become a bookkeeper in the financial services department of Bellflower Unified School District. She had a way with numbers and loved her chosen profession. She retired from the school district after 30-plus years.

Joan spent a number of years working at her daughter’s tanning salon as the bookkeeper and was the top saleswoman.

In 2009, she helped with the founding of AudioGirl Ministries and was a very active member along with keeping the ministry’s books.

In 2010, she became a volunteer at The Precious Life Shelter’s Thrift Store in Los Alamitos, where she spent over 5 years as a cashier.

In September 2015, Joan suffered a devastating stroke. After 2 months of recovery and convalescence, she was able to return to the family home in Lakewood, with 24/7 care. Joan continued to live life to the fullest until her passing on April 6th, 2019.

Joan loved Jim, Jesus, her family and friends, good eats, red wine, reading, babies, puppies, and life in general. She was always ready for a good time and a good laugh. Her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt were the most important to her. All who knew her would agree Joan loved and gave of herself unconditionally.
