WAS ACTIVE AS KNITTER DURING WORLD WAR
South Deerfield, Nov. 10 - Mrs. Lydia Almena Warner Melendy, 75, wife of William Harold Melendy, of Mill River district, died at her home this morning of pneumonia after a week's illness...daughter of Jerry and Melissa (Fairfield) Baker who moved to South Deerfield when she was a young child; born September 22, 1847; twice married; November 4, 1895 married William Harold Melendy and since lived at Mill River; during the World War she was active in the Red Cross as a knitter and won the distinction of knitting more than 50 pairs of socks for the soldiers; besides her husband leaves two children by her first marriage, Samuel Warner of New York City and Mrs. Victor Martin of Montague City; her youngest son Worthy Warner drowned in Cuba during the Cuban war; leaves nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; funeral at home; burial North Mill River Cemetery.
