ADC Alvah Hazen HUFF, USCG (Ret.) Who was born at Electron, WA on October 15, 1909, passed away in Renton on his birthday at the age of 97. The son of Roy S. Huff and Winnifred I. Whitford Huff, Alvah attended schools in Tacoma and Puyallup before enlisting in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1932. He served on several CG cutters before being selected for Aviation Engine School, where he graduated in 1939. During World War II he was stationed at CG Air Station, St. Petersburg, FL where he flew anti-submarine and SAR patrols over the Gulf and Ocean shipping lanes. In October, 1946 he was promoted to Chief Aviation Machinists Mate, serving in that rate at air stations in Alaska, Washington and California before retiring in 1955 from CGAS South San Francisco, CA. After retiring from the Coast Guard, Alvah worked for Boeing as a Machinist for 20 years before retiring for good to play golf and care for his wife, Ruby F. Helms Huff. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruby and daughter, Cynthia Huff Wilson, two brothers, John W. Huff (Thelma) and Harold S. Huff (Ruth), and a sister, Eleanor M. Huff Miller (Bill). He is survived by two brothers, Dale H. (Dolores) of Bellevue and Leslie D. (Velma) of Puyallup, and a sister, Barbara G. Huff Ringo (Gene) of Vancouver, WA, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Alvah was an Honorary Past Master and life member of Occidental Lodge No. 72 of the Masons, a life member of the American Legion and active in the Elks Lodge. A Memorial Service will be held at the Newport Hills Community Church, 5833 - 119th SE, Bellevue, WA on Saturday, November 4, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Evergreen-Washelli in Seattle.
