WORLD WAR I

Son of Charles Lexington and Martha Belle Smith Pace, husband of Mary Bertha Crook.

MARION - C. LeGrand Pace, Jr., 41, died at a hospital in Columbia, Friday morning at 5:30. Mr. Pace was the junior member of the firm of C. L. Pace and Son, funeral directors, of this city, and was actively engaged in this business until about a year ago, when his health forced him to give up his work. He had been under treatment at a Columbia hospital for about eight months. He was a World War veteran, a member of the 117th Engineers, 42 (Rainbow) Division. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Pace of this city.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Bertha Crooks Pace, and two sons, C. L. Pace III, and Joe Earl Pace all of Marion. His mother and father, and four sisters also survive. His sisters are: Miss Hettie Joe Pace, Miss Julia Belle Pace, Mrs. F. B. Stanley, of Marion and Mrs. W. H. Collins, of Bennettsville.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Rose Hill cemetery, and a huge throng of sorrowing relatives and friends attended the last sad rites over the remains of this popular World War veteran. Rev. John H. Graves, B. F. Allen, T. S. Tisdale, W. Roy Phillips, and John K. Johnston participated in the services. The floral tributes were many and beautiful.
