Raymond “Hans” F. Alfson, 72, of Sturgeon Bay, died on February 3, 2010 at Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday at Corpus Christi Catholic church in Sturgeon Bay, with the Rev. Anthony Birdsall as celebrant. A committal service was held at Knollwood Mausoleum in rural Manitowoc later in the day.

Raymond was born on December 27, 1937, son of the late Herbert and Catherine Mann Alfson. On May 12, 1962 he married Delores Leick at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Whitelaw. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Clarks Mills and Valders High School, graduating in 1955. He continued his education at Lakeland College in Sheboygan until 1957 and then transferred to the University of Denver in Denver, Colo., graduating in 1959 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration with majors in accounting and finance.

Following his education he worked with a certified public accounting firm in Elkhart, Ind. He was secretary-treasurer of the Burger Boat Co. in Manitowoc from 1960 to 1974, worked for the Manitowoc Public Utilities as administrative manager from 1974 to 1984 and for Peterson Builders from 1984 to 1988 from which he retired as vice president of financer in 1988. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing on Lake Michigan and the Florida Keys during the winter and playing baseball in the Manitowoc County League. He was an active member of the Manitowoc County Chiefs during their football heyday.

He is survived by his wife and best friend, Delores “Dee”; a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Dan Strauss of Hubertus, a grandson, Connor Strauss; a granddaughter, His princess, Ava Strauss; a brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Cathy Alfson of Manitowoc; a sister-in-law, Caroline Alfson of Valders; a step-sister and her husband, Sherrill and Don Riebe of Manitowoc; two step brothers and their wives, David and Diann Moore of Oshkosh and Dennis and Rogene Moore of Manitowoc; also surviving are many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Howard and Lawrence “Hubby” Alfson and two infant children. He was also preceded in death by his step father, John Moore and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fred and Adeline Leick.

Memorials may be made in Raymond's name to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation.

The Huehns Funeral Home of Sturgeon Bay served the family.
