Dale Christian Winkelspecht was born in Baltimore, MD. He spent many years in Baltimore, in Southern New Jersey, and in the Appalachians in Staunton, Virginia. Dale had a particular dislike of people who acted as bullies and always stood up for the underdog in a confrontation. In his younger days, he worked as a woodsman, gathering birch, cattails, grapevine, and many other plants in New Jersey. He was home, and self-schooled having never attended High School. Ultimately, he did successfully apply to, and graduate from three colleges, including the University of Virginia, in Charlottesville, Virginia graduating with a Master of Education degree, and, received a full scholarship to James Madison University, in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where he graduated magna cum laude. He was included on the schools Presidents' lists due to high academic achievements. He published three papers with the American Psychological Society while still pursuing a degree in one University and was a proud member of the Phi Theta Kappa national honor society. During the Persian Gulf conflict, Dale enlisted in the U.S. Army but the conflict ended prior to deployment. He was a teacher of blind and extremely multiply disabled students in Virginia for 20 years. Dale also taught many blind students to play guitar, both in his capacity as leader of "Dorm Dogs Band" at Virginia School for Deaf and Blind, and in Loudoun County public schools. His dad, Richard Allen Winkelspecht, Sr., taught him how to play the banjo, and was present at Dale's first live outdoor concert in Merchantville, NJ, in 1983. Dale kept in touch with some of the guys in that band, including Rob Dust on lead guitar (a cousin of bassist Bon Jovi) and Paul Trust on drums. An accomplished bass guitar player, Dale played in numerous professional bands including 'Asylum' with his brother, Richard Allen 'Buddy' Winkelspecht, Jr., who was drummer for the band, and alongside fellow guitarist Rick Kelly. He also played in Captain Kidzo's All-Star Alphabet band, with one performance seen on the PBS special, live from Charlottesville, Virginia, Dale was an avid motorcyclist, outdoorsman, fisherman, martial arts enthusiast, and Baltimore Ravens fan, in addition to a professional cook who loved to provide his close friends with delicious meals. He was a lifelong friend with several people who he considered as brothers, such as, Gene Brown, and, Ron Maggi who he met when they were 14 years of age and with whom he would jam and play the blues, and longtime friend Scott Rosenberg. He was always ready to help out a friend, or a stranger and could be counted upon when needed. Dale leaves behind a son and a daughter. Dale always said that if he had a tombstone, inscribed upon it would say..."Who Dares Wins !" He was 52 years of age when he passed, on Palm Sunday, Sunday, April 14, 2019.

He was a longtime member of Find A Grave. His screen name was "Zappa", member profile number 29168836 .

He will be missed.

**Note: Dale endured severe health issues near the end of his temporal life. He wrote his own obituary and asked a fellow Graver to create a page for him and include that obituary when he passed.
