Sunbury PA Daily Item, Saturday, June 15, 1940:
DROWNS IN CREEK
Sullivan county's first drowning of the season resulted in the death of William Edwin Albee, 24, of Ashley, Luzerne county. The youth sank to his death in Loyalsock Creek at Whirls End (sic). The life guard assigned to the creek beach was off duty when the young man, romping with his sister, ran into the creek, apparently believing it shallow. He plunged into swirling waters that were over his head.

Tunkhannock PA New Age, Thursday, June 20, 1940:
William Edwin Albee, of Ashley, was drowned last Wednesday afternoon at World's End State Park. Mr. Albee, mother, sister and two children were spending the day at the park and after a picnic he, accompanied by his sister went into the pool. It was learned that neither of them were able to swim, and venturing out into the deep water were caught by the current, Mr. Albee was drawn under, and drowned before assistance could be summoned. C.C.C. boys who were at work at the camp rescued the body and worked over him for several hours with no result. On this day the life guard was not on duty, as it was his day off.
