William “Billy” Coons, 83, Donnybrook, ND, passed away Monday, April 22, 2019, at his home.

William Harvey Coons was born April 19, 1936, the son of William and Augusta (Schwede) Coons, in Kenmare, ND. He was raised on the family farm in Coulee, ND and graduated from Kenmare High School. He then received his Associates Degree in Mechanics and Welding.

Billy married Yolanda “Lonnie” Schlack in 1961 in Minot, ND. They made their home in rural Donnybrook and were together for 58 years.

Billy was a long term member of the Lowland Township Board, Weather Modification and the Welfare Board. He was also the #1 Salesman of Trail-Rite hopper bins for the US and Canada.

Billy was a farmer, through and through. The family farm was established in 1906. C&C Farms has been built through a strong working bond between Billy, his son, Troy and Lonnie. Billy built their first seed cleaner with Troy in the 1970s and recently completed a mobile seed cleaner within the last six weeks. In 1983, Billy and Lonnie received the NDSU Harvest Bowl Award for their involvement in agricultural production as farmers and promoters of the profession. Billy was a strong man; thoughtful, kind and honorable. Any planting and seeding job worth doing was worth doing right. He was against waste and also believed in helping those in need.

Billy enjoyed kidding around with others and liked having coffee and cookies with those who visited the farm. He had amazing insight and vision for being able to repair and design things. He loved attending auction sales, so much so that he even had his own built in numbers at them. He also enjoyed hunting geese, ducks, deer and antelope, trapping with his son, fishing, riding snow mobiles, motorcycles and going for rides in his plane. He lived his life with his word and honor and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
